지난주, 환태평양경제동반자협정의 협상이 최종적으로 잘 마무리 되었습니다. 뉴질랜드에게 큰 혜택을 가져다 줄 이번 협정은 우리에게 좋은 소식입니다.
TPP는 뉴질랜드의 무역 협정 중 가장 크며, 2030년도까지 적어도 $2.7 billion의 경제적인 혜택을 가져다 줄 것입니다. 이 협정에는 세계 경제 규모의 36%를 차지하는 아시아 태평양의 12개국이 참여 하였습니다.
수출업에 의존 하는 작은 나라로써, 나라 안에서만 물건을 사고 파는 걸로는 경제 성장을 할 수 없습니다.
그렇기 때문에 TPP를 통해 11개국의 8억 인구에게 다가설 수 있는 것은 큰 차이를 만들 것입니다. 지난 해, 뉴질랜드는 그 국가들에게 $28 billion 상당의 상품과 서비스를 수출 했습니다.
뉴질랜드 정부는 미국과 일본과의 자유무역협정을 모색 했습니다. 지난 25년간 미국은 세계적으로 가장 큰 경제, 그리고 일본은 세번 째로 큰 경제로 자리 잡았습니다. 두 국가 모두 TPP에 속해 있습니다.
TPP는 뉴질랜드 수출업자들에게 더 많은 상품과 서비스를 세계에 팔 수 있도록 지원할 것이며, 이 것은 우리의 경제를 활성화 시키고, 더 많은 일자리와 높은 소득으로 이어질 것입니다.
이번 협정은 미국, 일본, 캐나다, 멕시코, 그리고 페루와의 무역에서 관세가 93% 철폐 되며, 뉴질랜드는 이로써 우리의 5대 교역 파트너들과의 자유 무역 관계를 가지게 되었습니다.
뉴질랜드는 TPP로 인해 연간 $259 million의 관세를 절약하게 될 것입니다.
뉴질랜드의 낙농업을 예로 들자면, 이번 협정은 $4.6 billion 가량의 수출품들이 TPP 국가들에게 수출 될 때에, $102 million을 절약 해줄 것입니다.
육류, 와인, 목재, 산업 제품 등 다른 뉴질랜드 수출품에 대해서도 관세가 수백만불 절약 될 것입니다.
관세 절약은 이번 무역 협정이 뉴질랜드에게 주는 혜택의 시작일 뿐입니다. 수출업자들에게는 접근 장벽이 때론 더 중요합니다. 이러한 장벽들을 줄임으로 인해 좋은 기회들을 많이 제공할 것입니다.
TPP 협상이 타결 된 가운데, 이 전에 많은 사람들이 우려 했던 부분들은 최종 협상에서 제외 되었습니다. 예를 들어, 뉴질랜드 국민들은 보조금이 지원되는 의약품에 대해 돈을 더 내지 않을 것입니다.
TPP 는 뉴질랜드에 매우 긍정적인 협정입니다. 이 것은 다양하고 강한 경제, 더 많은 일자리 창출과, 그리고 뉴질랜드 국민들이 앞으로 나아갈 수 있도록 더 많은 기회를 제공하기 위한 국민당 정부의 계획에 기반 되어 있습니다.
TPP delivers significant benefits for NZ
Last week, negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement were successfully concluded. That’s great news for New Zealand as it will deliver significant benefits for our country.
TPP is New Zealand’s biggest ever trade deal, with an estimated benefit to our economy of at least $2.7 billion a year by 2030. It involves 12 Asia-Pacific countries, which together account for 36 per cent of the world’s economy.
As a small country relying on exports, New Zealand can’t get rich selling things to ourselves.
That’s why better access to the more than 800 million customers across the 11 other countries in TPP will make all the difference. Last year, New Zealand sold $28 billion worth of goods and services to those countries.
Successive New Zealand governments have sought free trade agreements with the United States and Japan - the world’s largest and third largest economies - for the past 25 years. Both those countries form part of TPP.
TPP will allow Kiwi exporters to sell more products and services to the world, boost our economy, and support more jobs and higher incomes back in New Zealand.
It eliminates tariffs on 93 per cent of New Zealand’s exports to the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and Peru and means New Zealand now has free trade relationships with our top five trading partners.
TPP will save New Zealand exporters $259 million a year in tariffs they currently have to pay just to get their products into these markets.
Take the New Zealand dairy industry for example. This deal will save them $102 million on the $4.6 billion worth of products exported to TPP countries.
Other industries set to save millions of dollars in tariffs include meat, wine, horticulture and forestry.
Tariff savings are just the start of the benefits this trade agreement offers to New Zealand. Barriers to access are often even more important to exporters. Eliminating these barriers will unlock enormous opportunities.
Now that TPP negotiations have concluded people will see many of the concerns raised previously have not been reflected in the agreement. For example, New Zealanders will not pay more for subsidised medicines.
The signing of TPP is great for New Zealand. It builds on the National-led Government’s wider plan to diversify and strengthen our economy, support more jobs, and provide more opportunities for Kiwis to get ahead.
